Reclaim space: empty, cold & duplicate files

Use the File Cleaner and Disk Info tools to find and remove files that waste space — safely.

DiskDog finds three kinds of space-wasting files: empty files (0 bytes), cold files (not accessed for a long time), and duplicate files (identical content). Each runs a scan first and lets you review before deleting.

With "Delete to Recycle Bin" enabled (Settings → System, on by default), every cleanup is recoverable from the system Recycle Bin.

Empty files

  1. 1Open File Cleaner and stay on the Empty Files tab.
  2. 2Add one or more folders, optionally enable Include Subdirectories.
  3. 3Scan, review the list, then delete selected or all.

Some apps create empty placeholder files on purpose. Review the list before deleting everything.

Cold files

Cold files are files not accessed for more than the configured number of days (default 90). They are good candidates to archive to a slower drive or delete. The Cold Files tab lets you migrate them to an archive directory (preserved) or delete them.

Duplicate files

  • Files are grouped by size first, then verified by SHA-256 hash — only truly identical files are grouped.
  • Each group keeps one file by default; pick which copy to keep, then bulk-delete the rest.
  • The total reclaimable space is shown before you delete.
