Find every copy of a file

Pick one file and locate all its copies across selected folders — by exact content or fuzzy similarity.

Find Copies lives as a tab inside the Disk Info module. Unlike duplicate scanning (which groups all duplicates in a tree), Find Copies focuses on one specific "seed" file and shows you everywhere it has been copied.

Step by step

  1. 1Open Disk Info and switch to the Find Copies tab.
  2. 2Pick a seed file — click Browse or drag-and-drop a single file onto the drop zone.
  3. 3Add one or more search directories where copies might live.
  4. 4Choose a match mode: Exact (SHA-256) or Similar (fuzzy hash with a threshold).
  5. 5Start the scan. Results are pinned with the seed file at the top, copies listed below.

Exact vs Similar match

  • Exact uses SHA-256 to find byte-identical copies — fastest and zero false positives.
  • Similar uses a fuzzy hash with a similarity threshold to catch edited or re-saved versions.
  • Only files with the same extension as the seed are compared.

The seed file is protected — it can never be deleted from the results. Bulk deletion only targets the copies you select, and respects your global "Delete to Recycle Bin" setting.
