Compare near-identical files

Scan a folder for files that are similar (not just identical) — to spot versions, edits, and almost-duplicates.

Similar Files groups files whose contents resemble each other above a similarity threshold, using a fuzzy hash. Unlike duplicate detection (exact matches only), this catches edited documents, re-exported images, and slightly different versions.

This module is read-only. It scans and displays results for comparison — no files are moved, modified, or deleted.

Run a scan

  1. 1Open the Similar Files module and add one or more folders.
  2. 2Pick a similarity threshold (60% – 100%).
  3. 3Optionally include subdirectories, then Scan.
  4. 4Review groups; each group has a base file and its similar matches with a similarity score.

Choosing a threshold

  • 100% — exact duplicates only.
  • ≥ 90% — very similar; minor edits or metadata changes.
  • ≥ 80% — similar; a good general default.
  • Lower — loosely similar; may include false positives.

Use the ▶ and 🗂️ buttons on any row to open a file or reveal it in your file manager, then decide what to do with it yourself.
